Ferrari 599 SA Aperta 2012 |
The SA Aperta was announced at the Paris International Motor Show in 2010, and it carried on Ferrari’s tradition of creating limited-edition drop-top V-12 grand tourers, which included the 550 Barchetta and the 575 Superamerica. The announcement might have come as a surprise to the majority of the people at the show, but 80 of Ferrari’s best customers already knew of the car’s impending premiere, as only 80 examples would be made and they had all been spoken for by the time it was announced publically.
Even though the SA Aperta was built on the basis of the 599 GTO’s chassis and drivetrain, Ferrari wanted the SA Aperta to have a softer personality than the GTO, which was intended to be a road-legal version of the 599XX. However, only minor changes were necessary to change the car’s personality. The windshield was given a steeper rake, and two aerodynamic fins were crafted behind the roll bars, beautifully recalling the flying buttresses on the standard 599. Ferrari’s engineers also took time to adjust the suspension and exhaust on the SA Aperta to give it less aggressive settings than its track-ready sibling, making it perfect for comfortable long-distance cruising.

Despite stiffening the chassis, the SA Aperta boasts structural rigidity similar to that of the GTO and only brings a negligible weight difference in return. It was intended as a roadster and comes equipped with a light soft-top, which was designed for use if the owner is suddenly subject to foul weather whilst out and about.
The SA Aperta presented here wears the distinction of being the last SA Aperta constructed, and it is also one of just two examples delivered new to France. It is finished in Rossa Corsa, and the interior is luxuriously trimmed in black leather with red detailing. The optional fully electronic carbon-fibre-backed Recaro seats feature red stitching and red leather piping, along with Cavallinos beautifully embroidered into the headrests. The owner took the opportunity to option his SA with all the available options, which included parking sensors; GPS navigation with satellite tracking, which can determine the car’s location in the case of theft; a yellow tachometer; a two-tone red and black leather steering wheel; a black convertible top; red brake callipers; SILVER dashboard trim; a piano-black centre console; and a sports exhaust system, amongst other options.
