Gran Turismo Omologoto: three words in the Ferrari vocabulary that carry a monumental amount of significance. The first time they were used was on the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which was the pinnacle of the 250 series, as it had accumulated numerous GT class wins at the Tour de France, Targa Florio, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans when new. It proved to be the ultimate dual-purpose sports car, as it was perfectly capable on public roads or on the track. In 1984, Ferrari unveiled the 288 GTO with the intention of competing in Group B rallying. However, the regulations were changed after the car had already been developed and introduced, but Ferrari still produced 272 road-legal versions, and all were sold before production began. Twenty-six years later, Ferrari would use the GTO name for a third time for their newest supercar, the 599 GTO.

Unlike its predecessors, the 599 GTO was not intended for racing, but that didn’t give it an excuse to be lacking in performance. It was developed directly from the track-only 599XX and was the most powerful Ferrari road car ever at the time of its introduction, as it produced 670 horsepower, which was more than the fabled Enzo. Changes over the standard 599 were numerous, and the GTO benefitted greatly from lessons learned in the 599XX program. In addition to its increase in horsepower, the suspension was more responsive, the shift-speed of the F1-style gearbox was increased, additional down force was gained through revised aerodynamics, and new, state-of-the-art carbon-fibre brakes were fitted. Ferrari also reduced the weight of the 599 GTO to 1,495 kilograms by utilising thinner aluminium for the bodywork and thinner glass and lighter components on the brakes, transmission, and exhaust.

In 2012, this particular car left the factory as the last 599 GTO ever produced, wearing Rosso Corsa paint with a Matte Silverstone roof, which was a popular option that was introduced on the 599 GTO, and it was one of twelve examples delivered new to France. The interior beautifully complements the car’s exterior, as this GTO was optioned with a bicolour interior in black and red leather, which was what the 288 GTOs were usually trimmed in. The optional carbon-fibre-backed fully electric seats were finished in two-tone black and red with red piping, and it also featured red seatbelts, to hold the driver and passenger firmly in place. The steering wheel features further red and black leather, as well as Ferrari’s now signature carbon-fibre trim with LED shift lights.

At purchase, the owner chose to fit his new Ferrari with every available option, which included red brake callipers, a yellow tachometer, GPS navigation, front and rear parking sensors, a leather parcel shelf, carbon-fibre shift paddles, carbon-fibre door panels, a headliner in leather, red Cavallinos stitched into the headrests, a sport exhaust, a roll bar trimmed in red leather, and matching Ferrari leather-trimmed luggage, amongst many others. All of those features and optional extras brought it to an additional €48,000 over the GTO’s standard €320,000 price. Additionally, this 599 GTO has been installed with a satellite tracker that can locate the car if stolen.

The 599 GTO presents in as-new condition, as it has accumulated just 290 kilometres on its odometer since rolling off the production line two years ago. This incredibly versatile 599 GTO is an absolute track-day monster that shows its 599XX roots, but on the road, it can easily cruise along at highway speeds, shuttling two people and their luggage over great distances with ease.
