Ferrari 512 BBi 1984 - World Of Classic Cars -

Ferrari 512 BBi 1984

When introduced at the 1981 Frankfurt Salon, the 512 BBi brought about only minor changes from the outgoing 512 BB, with the chief amongst those being the addition of a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injection system. The BBi retained all of the 512 BB’s looks and character but also added exposed driving lights on the nose and rectangular parking lights adjacent to the exhausts at the rear. For many clients, the addition of the fuel injection was a welcome change, and the 512 BBi is often considered to be the most liveable of Ferrari’s Berlinetta Boxer models.

Naturally, performance remained incredible over the outgoing carburetted 512. The fuel-injected engine of the 512 BBi brought about an additional 20 foot-pounds of torque over its carburetted predecessor, and the powerplant proved to be much more tractable overall. A sprint from 0 to 60 mph would take just 5.4 seconds, and the 512 BBi topped out at 174 mph. By 1984, the 512 BBi’s final year of production before it was replaced by the Testarossa, 1,007 examples had been produced.
Italian registration documents accompanying this 512 BBi show that this car was originally delivered to Anna Maria Grippo, or Potenza, in February 1984. As per Ferrari records, the car still retains its original engine and is finished in its original colour combination of Nero Fer over a Crema leather interior. Anna Maria Grippo kept the car for just over a year before selling it in May 1985 to Mr Lepore Crescenzio, who in 1986 changed the registration from PZ193097 to AV250275. On 30 December 1986, the car passed to Mr Francesco Califano, a resident of Pagani, Salerno, who maintained ownership of the car for just over 25 years, when he sold it to Mr Laquinta Rosario, of Napoli, in January 2012. Shortly thereafter, in March 2012, the car was purchased by the current owner.
Along with having resided in Italy for its entire life, the 512 BBi still retains its original engine. In 2014, the car received a major service, which included replacing the cam belts, water hoses, brakes, and clutch and refreshing the paint.
