The result of a partnership between two of motorsport’s most respected names, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was seemingly the supercar that could do anything. With a hand-built 5.4-litre V-8 fitted with a Lysholm-type twin-screw supercharger, the SLR’s engine produced 617 brake horsepower at 6,500 rpm, which helped it achieve a top speed of 207 mph. However, the car was not about all-out performance like its primary competition, the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT.
Not only was the SLR a world-class supercar but it also could easily perform double duty as a high-speed grand tourer as well. The car boasts a front-mid-engine layout with the engine sitting behind the front wheels and just ahead of the cabin. This helped to

improve the SLR’s handling by giving it near-perfect weight distribution, but it also gave the car a rather spacious boot and cabin. Comfortable over long distances and fast enough to outrun just about anything else on the road, the SLR could seemingly do anything.
This particular SLR McLaren was delivered new to the former Italian football star Alessandro Del Piero. Finished in the SLR’s quintessential colour combination of Crystal Laurite Silver SLR over Silver Arrow 300 SL Red leather, it remains in remarkable condition.
Just over 10 years old, the SLR has aged quite well with its incredible looks and equally fantastic performance.
