Ferrari 308 GTB 'Carter Secco' 1979 |
The long-awaited replacement for the Dino 246 GT model made its inaugural appearance at the 1975 Paris Salon. The Pininfarina-designed body had a pronounced wedge profile, with a rectangular egg-crate aluminium radiator grille below a slim full-width satin-black front bumper. However, there were numerous key design elements of the Dino 246 GT carried through into the body details. These included the scalloped door intakes, twin circular rear light assemblies, and the vertical concave rear screen bounded by buttressed sail panels.
The European-delivered cars were fitted with a 252-horsepower engine with dry sump lubrication, whereas the USA-delivered cars were limited to 240–brake horsepower due to emissions-control systems and used a conventional wet-sump engine.
The steel-bodied Ferrari 308 GTB shown here, chassis 27175, was delivered to its first owner, Mr Daniele Margiotta, in Rome via Ferrari dealer Pietro Masino on 23 April 1979. The car was originally finished in Blue Sera (106-A-18) over a Beige (3218) leather interior.
