Alvis TA14 1948 - World Of Classic Cars -

Alvis TA14 1948

Following the end of World War II, Alvis quickly re-emerged with a revised range of passenger cars. They had been kept busy building military vehicles during the war so were able to revert to peacetime products quite quickly. As with most other manufacturers, there was no time or money to develop new lines, therefore the new TA14 was really a freshened-up pre-war version of the 12/70 which had been introduced in 1938, the most obvious difference being the adoption of steel disc wheels in place of wires. Alvis had always sold well-built cars with sporting pretensions. The TA14 offered little in terms of real performance but did come well equipped and beautifully finished. The TA14 used an 1892cc, four cylinder engine

and rigid axles at the front and rear. Although most TA14's were 'Sports Saloons' a few carried drophead coupé coachwork, some being built by Tickford. The TA14 remained in production until 1950.

Alvis TF21 - World Of Classic Cars -

Alvis TF21 Fixedhead Coupé 1966

The Alvis Three Litre series IV, TF21, was the last car produced by Alvis cars. An updated version of the 1963 TE21, it was announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966 and made until 1967. The body was a modified version of the TC108G styled by Graber of Switzerland but built by Mulliner Park Ward and was distinguished by having twin headlights mounted one above the other. Fixedhead coupé and convertible versions were available. The design was noted for its lack of bright side trim or creases moulded into the body parts and the windshield was one-piece, curved and not too highly sloped, externally, the car was identical to the TE21, but there were some changes to the suspension and, inside the car, the instruments were better organised.  The 2993cc engine, first used in the 1950 TA21, had its power increased to 150bhp at 4750rpm by fitting triple SU carburettors giving the car a top speed of 120mph. A choice of automatic gearbox or a five-speed manual gearbox made by ZF was available. The chassis and suspension continued with its front coil springs and leaf springs at the rear.

Product Description

The body was a modified version of the TC 108G styled by Graber of Switzerland but built by Mulliner Park Ward and distinguished by having twin headlights mounted one above the other. Saloon and drophead versions were available. The design was noted for its lack of bright side trim or creases moulded into the body parts. The windshield was one-piece, curved, and not too highly sloped.

The 2993 cc engine, first used in the 1950 TA 21, received a modified cylinder head and manifold which increased power to 130 bhp (97 kW) at 4000 rpm giving the car a top speed of 107 mph (172 km/h). A choice of automatic or five speed gearbox made by ZF was available. Suspension was independent at the front using coil springs, with leaf springs at the rear. Disc brakes were fitted to all wheels.
Recirculating-ball-type steering gear was fitted to reduce effort and power steering became optional in late 1964.
Although the car was replaced by the TF 21 in 1966, the TE 21 was still in stock and "available to special order" until 1967.
