Shelby GT350 1966

THE FASTEST GT350 IN EUROPE

According to the SAAC Shelby Registry 1965–1966–1967, the Shelby GT350 presented here, chassis number SFM 6S748, was originally destined for the U.K. and shipped to Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough in January of 1966. Built in late 1965 and finished in red, the car was fitted with ten-spoke wheels and rear seats as a road-going example. It was allegedly used by its first British owner on a regular basis on the street and occasionally in smaller racing events.

The GT350 was later imported to Germany in 1977 and purchased by Bernd Schwebel, who upgraded the car to GT350R specifications and campaigned the car in numerous events over the course of the next 11 years. It was then purchased by Ozren Kuzmanovic of Stuttgart in 1988 and was restored for vintage racing, including refinishing the car in Shelby’s iconic livery of Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes and fitting it with a GT350R front spoiler. It was campaigned under the banner of the EMS Racing Team and remained consistently competitive and successful under Kuzmanovic’s ownership. During this time, it was driven by Sir Stirling Moss. The 2011 edition of the Shelby Registry argued that chassis number SFM 6S748 ‘could be the fastest GT350 in Europe’!

The car was campaigned continuously throughout Europe until 2002, when it was purchased by its current custodian, also a frequent historic racer. Since then, it has been a frequent sight on vintage rallies and historic racing throughout the continent. Chassis number SFM 6S748 has been driven in many of Europe’s most prestigious and competitive events including the Le Mans Classic, Oldtimer Grand Prix, Modena Cento Ore, Corsica Rally, Rallye Köln Ahrweiler, and 6 Hours of Spa.
