Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz 1958 |
The year 1958 arguably marked the ultimate Cadillac of the decade, combining subtle elegance with chrome flash and dash. More elegant and subdued than the 1959 tailfins, the flared fins of ’58 carry the horizontal bodyline as the trunk deck begins to slope down, creating an overall sensation of motion, careful aim, and restrained luxury.
Supreme among these cars was the 1958 Eldorado Biarritz, powered by a 335-horsepower V-8 with three two-barrel carburetors and sumptuously trimmed on par with any other luxury automobile of the era, using only the finest materials. The lengthy list of standard equipment and available options together comprised virtually every comfort and convenience that Cadillac could conceive, ensuring that driver and passengers would enjoy a top-of-the-line motoring experience. The Eldorado Biarritz’s combination of power and presence has seldom been repeated in such spectacular fashion.

The Eldorado Biarritz shown here reportedly received a frame-off restoration in 1991, after which it spent some 15 years in the renowned Florida collection of Dr. Edward and Joanne Dauer, known for their very high-quality and beautifully presented Cadillacs. It was thereafter acquired for Mr. and Mrs. Kughn’s collection, where it has continued to be well maintained. Today, it still shows very well in its original color of Black, with a year-correct red leather interior and black convertible top. Among the numerous luxury and convenience features, the roster is led by factory air conditioning, which is original to this car, as documented by its factory build sheet; numerous convenience and luxury features include the day-night rear-view mirror, E-Z Eye automatic headlight dimmer, and every power feature available.
