Lenham-Healey Six 1961 |
The Lenham Healey Six started life like every sports car should, two young men's desire scribbled on a beer mat in the pub. Play the fantasy garage game as we all have, pick your top five, money no object then take it a step further and take your favoured design cues and out them all into one car. This is exactly what Julian Booty and Peter RIx did many moons ago. They wanted it to be long and thin, a TR was too wide as was the MGA. A big six-cylinder Healey hit the spot and it came with a well tested engine. The nose is Dalahaye as are the light pods, the exhaust allowed lower ground clearance and the tail, of course, was Bugatti. Vents, leather straps and an open cockpit all went towards what is now a very exclusive owners club. With just a reported 18 ever made, these are impossible to find and come from an established stable. The Lenham Motor Company has been involved with sports cars and motorsport for decades with Le Mans entries and a myriad of other specialist bodied sportscars to their quiver. Now under new ownership, it is gratifying to see the ethos of the company maintained taking the form of a working garage, classic car dealership and competitions department.
