Bentley S1 Saloon 1959 |
Bentley S1 chassis number B57LGD was acquired new by the consignor’s father via D.A. Coutroubis in May of 1959. A factory left-hand-drive model, as signified by the ‘L’ in its serial number, it was originally finished in Tudor Grey, with an utterly lavish complement of specially ordered options, as noted by the original build sheet. These included complete air conditioning (of ‘increased capacity’), heavy-duty suspension, no fewer than three sets of horns (standard, high-frequency, and Windtone), and Sundym glass windshield. The car was originally supplied with grey trunk carpeting to match that of the car’s interior and an extra rear speaker and volume control for the Radiomobile radio.

The car has remained with the same family since new. It appears to have been repainted in the original colour some time ago according to records in Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I and Bentley S1 by Bernard King. The interior is in wonderfully patinated condition, with just enough wear to be comfortable, and it has a delightful and welcoming appearance. The woodwork is still in beautiful condition, and the original radio is still present. Even the grey carpeting in the trunk is intact as in 1959.
