Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Fixedhead Coupe 2+2 1968 |
It is difficult to imagine the impact that the Jaguar E-Type had when it was launched back in 1961. When the average saloons had a top speed of 70mph and most were desperately dull, the E-Type was an instant sensation. The pre-eminent aerodynamist Malcolm Sayer uniquely applied complex mathematical formulae to create the stunning E-Type shape. Ironically, he hated being called a stylist yet he designed what is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever seen.
With its top speed of 150mph and a price tag of £2,196 for the fixedhead coupé, it was less than half the price of any of its contemporaries from either Italy or Germany. The E-Type moved the goalposts and it set an entirely new agenda.
