Jaguar XK120 Roadster 1950 |
The Jaguar XK120 is a sports car which was manufactured by Jaguar between 1948 and 1954. Jaguar's first post-war sports car, it succeeded the SS 100, which ceased production in 1940.
The XK120 was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a testbed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused a sensation, which persuaded William Lyons to put it into production. The ""120"" in its name referred to its 120 mph top speed which made the XK120 the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch.
It was available in two convertible versions; first as the roadster, then also as a drophead coupé from 1953 and as a closed, or ""fixed-head"" coupé from 1951. The iconic shape of the Jaguar XK120 roadster sustains the cars constant appreciation by classic car enthusiasts. Sadly for many, Jaguar XK's remain the car of dreams.

Those of a certain age may fondly remember coveting theses cars when they spotted a glimpse of them in private garages or on neighbours' driveways. Our advice? Buy one now.
Jaguar XK120's, and particularly AEN 482 are excellent, usable examples of much coveted 1950's motor cars. For the most part they are extremely robust, wonderfully reliable, infinitely eye-catching, and can turn their hand to almost anything. If you seek a Sunday-driver to go to Goodwood then AEN 482 is great; conversely, if you are looking for a capable touring or classic rallying car then this XK is well rounded for these tasks too….
