Bentley Turbo R 1989 |
In 1985, the Mulsanne Turbo theme was made more extreme with the Turbo R. The new Blower Bentley used the turbocharger and V8 engine of its previous incarnation but complemented it with a Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection. This put power up to 328bhp, not that the discreet Rolls-Royce would ever admit to that, and gave a top speed of 135mph; this velocity had to be electronically limited because of concerns that the tyres wouldn't cope with the weight of the car. Untethered, 170mph was rumoured to be obtainable. Less than 5000 Turbo R's were manufactured between 1985-1995.
