Iron Mountain facility photos - World Of Classic Cars -

One of the most highly detailed areas of any woodie is the intricate roof section which is made up of ribs, slats, massive rails and headers all of which lend to the car’s overall structural rigidity.

This photo highlights some of the finishing work being executed on one of the 205 Mercury Sportsman models built in 1946.

Shown here is a great period photograph of the body being joined to the metal floor and the cowl.

This photo shows the meticulous attention to detail in the sanding process as the Woodies remain on the line, each one being attended to by skilled craftsmen.

This photo illustrates the sanding and varnishing process and the work involved between each coat as craftsman continue to work on the car at the Iron Mountain facility.

Shown here is one of the flagship models from 1946, the Ford Sportsman while awaiting trim at the Iron Mountain facility.

More detailed work is seen here as the hydraulic lines for the convertible tops and power windows are installed by men on the line.

This last photo fittingly shows the completed wood body leaving the Iron Mountain facility by box car bound for Louisville, Kentucky for final installation on a chassis.
